My Jim-Seattle Reads Project

Yvonne San Luis Design hired me to illustrate this piece for the Seattle Reads promotion of the book "My Jim" by Nancy Rawles. The art has been used for a poster brochure, book club reading guide and bookmarks . It was a wonderful to illustrate such a powerful story of love and loss.
"My Jim" is a powerful, moving novel, a harrowing account of slavery and a testament to the power of love and longing for freedom, survival of families and tradition. In "My Jim," author, Nancy Rawles re-imagines Mark Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" from the slave's perspective. The story follows Jim's family as they struggle to cope with his loss after his escape down the Mississippi.
